Welcoming Address by YAB Tuan Chow Kon Yeow, Chief Minister of Penang State Government

It is with great honour and humility that I welcome you to Penang, the Pearl of the Orient. The island state is bursting with historical monuments and wonderful delicacies waiting to be experienced by the world.

The pro-business environment of Penang is the result of decades of continuous development and improvement. To us, there is always more to be done when it comes to expanding our economic values. It is well known both locally and internationally that Penang is a great hub for industries such as electronics, health care equipment, and especially tourism. Speaking in a collective manner, Penang is the perfect spot for business tourism as we possess the professional competence and outstanding attractions for leisure.

Knowledge is power and we are very focused on facilitating the sharing and exchanging of ideas here in Penang. With every effort we put into organising new meetings and conferences, we get closer and closer to our goal of becoming the preferred meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions (MICE) destination. This is why we are dedicated to the consistent endeavours of improving and enhancing our tourism industry not only in Penang but throughout Malaysia.

As mentioned earlier, there is a great amount of hard work being put into making Penang a focal point for businesses local and abroad and this is why visitors can often see that we are filled with many establishments that act as service providers for MICE events.

Combining rich cultural heritage and modern technologies, the amenities here are very suitable for business owners to engage with each other in the most creative and innovative ways. The SPICE Arena and Convention Centre itself is testament to this as it is built for state-of-the-art events while also being surrounded by restaurants and cafes that offer a variety of Penang’s popular delicacies.

I look forward to welcoming the global and domestic participants of WHOLE 2020 and I hope that your visit to Penang will be one that leaves you wanting to visit again in the future.

The Northern state of Penang, also known as the Pearl of the Orient is one of the most touristic locations in Malaysia with its melting pot for culture, charming colonial architecture and a complete package for leisure & relaxation. Ironically, even as the second smallest state in Malaysia, Penang has also developed its business-tourism sector over the years and is the top choice second-tier destination for the MICE industry where delegates have been shown to contribute several times in the economic growth more than leisure visitors. With world class-standard facilities, Penang further attracts both domestic and international business.

WHOLE has a rather unique profile, especially for a TRADE event. The uniqueness comes from the fact that there is no other event anywhere else in the Region or even the world with such an extensive profile. WHOLE, as its abbreviation suggests, will cover the entire spectrum of the HOSPITALITY industry creating a holistic trade event. The event will cover the major sectors under the big Hospitality umbrella including; accommodation and lodging, food and beverage, lifestyle and entertainment, travel and tourism and wellness.
